Sliding doors don’t have hinges. This one does. From my DOORS folder.

Girl, Peach: A Life of Sliding Doors

A memoir about my mother, Diane. Coming February 2027.

My mom will tell you she isn’t a “feelings” person. So I didn’t learn her story by asking her to open up. I learned it by asking small questions, and by pulling the thread when the answers didn’t add up.

What I found was a life full of sealed records, family secrets, and sliding doors. The book closes in Diane’s own words.

The manuscript is finished, and we’re in the editing stage now.

Little Hinges

My newsletter. The book holds all the sliding doors. This is where I share the hinges: the small moments, the stories behind the story, and the photographs.

  • Every Thursday, one story behind the story.
  • One small question to ask your own mom that weekend.
  • Your answers, shared back with the group.
Listen for what she is NOT saying. Sometimes those are the pearls.
Julie, on asking your mom

Hi, I’m Julie.

I’m a songwriter, a lover of photography, and the author of a memoir about my mother. As a kid, my family called me Curious George, and I never really stopped asking questions.

Writing Girl, Peach taught me that the biggest turns in a life rarely announce themselves. Nobody notices them at the time. Years later you see them clearly, as if from above. I call those moments little hinges, because little hinges open big doors.

Every family has a story it hasn’t told yet. I’d love to help you find yours before it’s gone.

What sliding door in your life turned on something small?

A chance meeting. A job you almost didn’t take. A question you finally asked. Reply to any Little Hinges email and tell me about your hinge. I read every one.
